Having graduated as a Graphic Designer, Gary started
work in the industry as a print designer creating promotional paper
items for the film, television and music industry. With a varied range
of clients including Columbia Tristar, Marvel, WWF Wrestling and Apple
Records, Gary was able to work on a diverse range of designs for titles
ranging from Austin Powers, Spiderman, The Beatles, Tomb Raider, Charlies
Angels and Dawsons Creek. When Gary was asked to design promotional
postcards for the Bruce and Brandon Lee Association he developed a
great interest in Bruce Lee films and was introduced to the Head of
the association Andrew Staton. Realising Garys enthusiasm for Bruce
Lee films he asked if he would like to be involved in an upcoming
DVD release called Bruce Lee: The Immortal Dragon for Stax Entertainment.
Having never designed for screen Gary agreed to design the DVD cover
and disc on body as well as help with the research of the DVD extras
that were to be included in the project. This soon evolved onto Gary
designing the menu screens for the feature packed DVD and he was introduced
to the team at Designlab who were to be authoring the project.
With the success of Immortal Dragon, Tony Taglienti continued to use
Gary for the designing and research of further titles and word soon
spread in the martial arts world too as he gained an 8 page monthly
section writing about Asian action films and interviewing the stars
for Impact Magazine, as well as contributing articles for Martial
Arts Illustrated.
As Garys passion for martial arts grew so did his DVD design repertoire
and over the following years he worked on many kung fu collections.
His knowledge of film and television was also put to good use by many
studios such as Warner Brothers who required some written extras on
their DVD releases of Wonder Woman, Dukes of Hazzard and Freddies
Nightmares.
With an ever-growing DVD collection of over 1000 discs, it was a natural
progression for Gary to move into DVD design full time and in 2005
he started work at Designlab. Having never used After Effects or Spruce
before, Gary started at the bottom being trained in creating static
menus and basic authoring by the rest of the team. Within months he
was designing motion menus and authoring more complex titles. Having
designed over 200 DVDs in just over a year at Designlab, Gary designed
DVD sleeves for a range of clients as well as researching and writing
DVD extras on many titles including the recent releases Robocop: The
Series and Special Forces: Untold Stories.
Following the demise of Designlab in September 2006, Gary joined Jim
and Tom in the creation of DARE post in October as the Senior designer.
Since then he has worked on many major titles including Silent Scream,
Be With Me and Farce of the Penguins.
